Guillermo del Toro's The Hobbit is on?

Pan's Labyrinth helmer talks up $300m double-epic...

With Peter Jackson and New Line finally kissing and making up, Guillermo del Toro has told Ain’t It Cool News that he thinks he WILL direct Lords Of The Rings prequel The Hobbit.

The plan is for Jackson and del Toro to oversee scripting for two back-to-back epics, costing $150 million each.

While they wait for the writers’ strike to resolve, WETA will handle The Hobbit’s effects, giving del Toro scope for the biggest monster-mash of his career.

The Pan’s Labyrinth’s auteur told Ain’t It Cool he’s a massive Hobbit fan and can’t wait to realise Tolkein’s creatures – especially Smaug, the mighty dragon that Bilbo Baggins sets out to
kill.
