Guillermo del Toro unlikely to ever make Hellboy 3

So says comic-book writer Mike Mignola

hellboy

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola has dashed hopes that director Guillermo del Toro could one day make a third Hellboy movie.

While talking to the Daily Blam at this weekend’s Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, Mignola said: “Last I heard, he said he would not make it.”

That news shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to del Toro fans, though, with the producer-director’s schedule more jam-packed than ever before.

“Guillermo, who I love, in every interview there's a new story on what his next movie is and he honestly believes he's going to do all these things,” Mignola said.

“But last I heard he said, ‘I'm never gonna get back to Hellboy.’ I'm not surprised because he won't live long enough to do a tenth of the movies he's told me he's going to make.”

Del Toro’s first Hellboy was released in 2004, while a sequel followed in 2008. The director is currently busy working on his PG-13 monster movie Pacific Rim.

That said, del Toro's helped a lot of other directors make their movies by acting as producer, so it wouldn't surprise us if he did the same for Hellboy 3.

This is devastating for a Del Toro, Mignola and Pearlman fanboy such as myself. I knew it was kind of dead in the water, but I always got the impression it was Pearlman feeling his age that was the major stumbling block. I read a recent interview with ape face himself and he seemed to have done a U-turn and was prepared to consider it. But given Del Toro's recent pre-production to finished film ratio, I would never say never. One thing is for sure 'Hellboy' wouldn't be 'Hellboy' without Del Toro involved at some point., Ihasasadfacenow. :(

This is a shame, especially after the 2nd one hinted at more story for the Boy O' Hell. I think....
