Gus Vant Sant writing The Golden Suicides

He's teaming up with Brett Easton Ellis…

BY James White Oct 14th 2009 8:08AMFILED UNDER: Movie news

Gus Vant Sant and Brett Easton Ellis are combining their writing skills for what sounds like a hilarious romp. Okay, not so much: they're tackling a story of real-life suicide.

Despite his predilection for directing, Van Sant is only writing this time out, adapting a Vanity Fair article called The Golden Suicides by Nancy Jo Sales.

And what's the cheery piece about? Er, the double suicide of artistic couple Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake.

The pair were a popular couple on the art scenes of New York and California's Venice and were both established talents.

But then they fell into a paranoid spiral, believing that the government and religious groups were conspiring against them.

Duncan killed herself in 2007, and her other half walked into the Atlantic Ocean a week later.

It sounds like the sort of dramatic material that would suit Van Sant, and it'll be interesting to see what he and Easton Ellis come up with…
