Gwen Stacey down to four

And Venom could return to Spidey 4

With Emma Stone all but confirmed as the new Mary Jane Watson, attention turns to who will be filling the shoes of Bryce Dallas Howard's Gwen Stacy.

Stacy, who only appeared in the last of Raimi's films is apparently going to play a more pivotal role in Webb's take on the material, as Peter Parker's first love interest.

Sony have apparently being eyeing Dianna Agron (Glee's Quinn Fabray), Georgina Haig (Underbelly's Georgina Freeman), Dominique McElligott (who played Sam Bell's wife in Moon), and Alice in Wonderland's Mia Wasikowska.

Arguably one of the weakest elements of Raimi's trilogy was the love interests - Dunst's MJ was pretty, but fairly vacuous, and Spider-man 3 was such a jumble that Stacy just blurred into the background, so we're keen to see how Webb handles the soppy stuff. In 3D.

It's all very exciting of course, and the sooner it's all sorted out, the sooner Sony can get round to casting villains.

Early unconfirmed reports suggest a return for Venom, with Philip Seymour Hoffman in talks to play the character, but that has to be a web of lies... right?

Who would you like to see play Gwen Stacy? Is Hoffman for Venom a hoax? Speak!

In cinemas this week…

Venom better be f'kin' huge this time!!! Yet another example of Raimi's half assed approach to character. Sure, he might not be Venom's biggest fan, but, guess what? Some of us think he's one of Spidey's most exciting enemies. Topher Grace was far to small, young and smug.

Why reboot something that was OK to begin with? Did Spielberg change actors after the disappointment of Temple of Doom? No he just took a few years off and tried again. (Would of been better if he had stuck with Darabonts Indy script or even better hired Lawrence Kasdans who always made a silk purse out of Lucas' dire-logue..yes im still bitter)

I agree with punchbowl. venom is to spiderman as the joker is to batman. and rami never saw this and the potential the story could have had. and agreeing with hadouken76 if rami and writers had taken the time out maybe he could have come to terms with the complex story that could have been involved around the whole venom vs spidey concept and why the rivalry is something that fans of the comics love.

i agree as well, dont really see the point of this re-boot the story is so recent, i can remember everything from the films. the only decent thing to come out of this is that Emma Stone is MJ

Riami never liked the character Venom, he was forced to include Venom in Spidey 3 by the producers.
