Hailee Steinfeld may be only 14, but thanks to her Oscar-nominated role in True Grit, she’s far busier than your average moody teenager.
After being associated with the film adap of novel Forgotten and a new version of Sleeping Beauty, she’s now in talks to head up an adaptation of Romeo & Juliet.
Gosford Park’s Julian Fellowes has written the script, which is said to be a more indified version of Shakespeare’s play (quite what that means we’re not sure yet), while Italian director Carlo Carlie (Flight Of The Innocent) will direct.
Would an ‘indie’ take on Romeo & Juliet pander to the Twilight crowd with the two doomed lovers now wearing hoodies and caught in the middle of a council flat war?
No word yet, but with a budget of just $15m and a shoot taking place in Italy, this new adaptation should be a low-key affair.
Sound good? Or should the Romeo & Juliet adaps have stopped with Baz Lurhmann's epic effort? Speak up below...
