The Hangover: Part II smashed all sorts of records this weekend, snatching a hefty $200m at the worldwide box office.
Which means one word is currently echoing around the corridors at Warner Bros – “threequel!”
A third instalment in the Hangover series was talked about just before Hangover II hit, when director Todd Phillips confirmed he had an idea for a trilogy capper.
Now, Hangover II scribe Craig Mazin is being courted by WB to pen a third (and possibly final) instalment in the boozy franchise.
No word on the plot yet, though with Phillips clearly up for a third round of carnage, the only thing potentially standing in the way of a third Hangover could be the film’s stars.
Zach Galifianakis was constantly, vocally negative about Hangover II during filming, which means he could be nervous about a third, typecasting trip with the boys.
Considering the amount of money Hangover II’s made, though, Galifianakis, Brad Cooper and Ed Helms can basically ask for any sum they want...

Judging by how unfunny and utterly pointless the sequel was, I have no interest in seeing a third installment. I haven't felt so let down by a movie in a long time. I suppose I should have gone into this movie with lower expectations. After all it is a sequel.

How can a situation like this happen a second time nevermind a third. Hollywood is definately milking this franchise that pretty much tarnishes the first movie.

I wasn't overly disappointed with the sequel, in so much as it delivered to my expectations - clearly not too high. Me and my mates have already discussed the chance of a third and decided the only chance of a third working is if its Alan's (Zach Galifianakis) wedding! That said none of us were keen!

Why does it have to be after a stag night though? They could have mixed it up for the second film, but they didn't... could be any number of reasons to party. I have no problem with Zach Galiafanakis returning, I don't like the character at all. Get rid of him, get someone else, stop making it a carbon copy of the first two and there might be a chance.

Watched it last night and was fairly satisfied. Funny and plenty of laugh out loud moments although a carbon copy of the first... Not sure about a third film but they need to come up with an alternative story line...

That should have been 'I have no problem with Zach Galiafakis NOT returning', sorry.

The sequel has generated a lot of ill-will with the audience, who may be much more tentative on a third helping. If the script moves away from the "hangover" concept, and just uses the name for branding, and expands to a new story, I'd love that. Bet they can't be bothered though. I also bet the third film plan was around Galifinakis' character getting married, too.

when has Galiinkakas ever played a character? He's the same bearded numpty in everything! This is the male equivalent of Knightley phoned-in syndrome

To be fair to ZG though, he's been vocal all the way through Hangover 2 from inception that he doesn't think they should go to the well too often- according to him he WANTS to do other things, people just haven't been giving them to him. They had to drag him kicking and screaming into Hangover 2.

Knew this would happen as soon as I read the box office returns for the opening weekend.

Also read an interview with ZG earlier that he actually wanted to singe off the beard as part of the hangover joke, but they wouldn't let him...

The sequel was basically the same exact thing as the first one, except it was darker, and a bit more messed up than the first. Zach Galifianakis' character seemed crueler and not as carefree and happy go lucky as in the first hangover. A third would be too much.

I do think the Alan character is getting stupid now, you would just leave him to get murdered somewhere lol.
