Hanks remakes Summer Hours

French drama gets an American facelift...

Critically acclaimed 2008 flick Summer Hours is to be remade by Tom Hanks’ production company Playtone Productions.

The actor and his worker bees have been scouring Hollywood for the last few months to find a suitable screenwriter for the project, but nobody has been officially attached to the project yet.

The original French film details the story of three middle-aged siblings who reunite to see to their recently deceased mother’s affairs.

By doing so, they “witness the disappearance of their childhood memories when they must relinquish their family belongings to ensure their deceased mother’s succession”.

The film starred Juliette Binoche and was directed by Olivier Assayas. It was awarded the Best Foreign Film prize at this year’s US National Society of Film Critics ceremony.

Caught the French original? Think it's worth a remake?
