Hi-res Prometheus images land online

A better look at Ridley's return to space

Last month we snatched a first glimpse at Ridley Scott’s Prometheus via some scanned images posted online from Entertainment Weekly. No new images have arrived as yet, but what we do have are the hi-res versions of those original stills, and they’re looking mighty impressive.

The images show space-bound explorers Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and Logan Marshall-Green exploring a strange, foreign planet. Amongst the things they uncover are a vast stone head, and what look like an array of neatly arranged pods.

Elsewhere, there’s a look at Charlize Theron and Idris Elba on the bridge of the ship Prometheus, and a snap of the director himself, giving some pointers to Rapace.

Describing the film as sharing the “same DNA” as Alien, Scott dropped a few more tidbits about Prometheus’s various themes, when he spoke to the Wall Street Journal last month.

“The central metaphor of Prometheus is about a higher being who challenges the gods, and the gods don't want to give him fire,” he revealed. “Fire is our first form of technology and so by taking fire, the higher being is punished in perpetuity in a horrible fashion. Much like the story of the mythological god, Prometheus, who stole fire from Zeus and for his actions was bound to a rock with an eagle eternally devouring his liver.”

Prometheus will swoop into UK screens on 1 June 2012. In the meantime, take a look at the rest of the hi-res images below…

Are you excited about Prometheus? Hoping it will tap into Alien lore, or is it better off as a  standalone film? Thoughts below, please.

It's looking really good. The big stone head reminds me of the Necromongers technology in The Chronicles of Riddick though. Eep!

"a higher being who challenges the gods, and the gods don't want to give him fire" I'm sorry but this sounds sh*t! Ridley Scott is past it and the only true classic he's done since Blade Runner was Gladiator (and even that was a bit wobbly in parts). Seriously, you look at his list of films he's got a very average CV - Body Of Lies, Kingdom Of Heaven, Matchstick Men, Robin Hood, American Gangster, Hannibal, G.I Jane, White Squall, Black Rain, 1492......can anybody out there honestly say that any of these are 'classics' in the same vein as 'Alien' or 'Blade Runner'?? They're all decent films but not classics. I'd say 'Thelma And Louise' and 'Black Hawk Down' are the next best he's done and even those are more like 'guilty pleasures' for most people than true classics. don't get me wrong, I don't hate Ridley or anything, I just think he's very overrated. Trust me, we are all gonna be very disappointed when this film comes out...

Bobby if you think the entire Prometheus legend sounds s**t, a film called Prometheus based on said legend is probably not for you...

@Dave - whilst i sense the sarcasm in your comment, that is my point. The story of Prometheus IS weak, which is why I think this will be another addition to Ridley's mediocre list of films.
