Hugh Jackman confirms Aronofsky for Wolverine 2

Jackman discusses Logan sequel...

The Fountain

X-Men Origins: Wolverine may have turned out to be something of a filmic duff note, but considering the amount of buzz surrounding its sequel, hopes are high that star Hugh Jackman can pull an ace out of his sleeve.

That’s looking more and more likely, especially as Jackman has just confirmed that Darren Aronofsky is officially directing Wolverine 2.

The pair worked together previously on 2006's epic love storyThe Fountain.

“This is a change of pace,” Jackman promises. “Chris McQuarrie, who wrote The Usual Suspects, has written the script, so that’ll give you a good clue.

“[Aronofsky’s] going to make it fantastic. There’s going to be some meat on the bones. There will be something to think about as you leave the theatre, for sure.”

With Aronofsky having really come into his own with films like The Wrestler and the upcoming Black Swan, we really can't wait to see what he does with a comic book adaptation.

With Aronofsky at the helm, can things possibly go wrong? Tell us below...

In cinemas this week…

I know what I will be thinking once I leave the theater...didn't that Aronofsky guy make great movies once. Great team guys but Wolverine 2 how about something kind of original and good and not an adaption of a comic book story written by has been Chris Claremont and drawn by now right-wing nutjob Frank Miller?

Seems a tad unfair calling Claremont a has been as the guy did give us some of the greatest x-men stories ever told, days of future past, dark phoenix, god loves, man kills etc. But now that I'm older when you read some of the back issues you realise just how nuanced and political they can be. On topic though I don't have high hopes for wolvie 2 considering how poor the last one was.

Just as long as they improve the CGI, that slicing-the-sink scene was more Roger Rabbit

Best thing about X-Men Origins: Wolverine was the game that came with it. Actually pist all over the film. And does this mean the RoboCop re-boot is now done? Let's hope so.

There's no reason to assume this film will bear any resemblence to the first in tone or quality given the changes being made. Poor sequels can follow good movies and better movies can follow the "originals". Given the source material, writer and director there's every reason to expect the jump in quality to nirrorm or exceed that of X2 over X1 or Hellboy II over hellboy. (Not saying X1 or Hellboy were bad movies, just that their sequels were far better; as they should have been. Can't beat the negativity of the internet though. Laughing at the idea that a director as celebrated as Arronofsky, or even a middling one, can p**s away their career with one bad or unsuccesful movie.
