Hugh Jackman discusses bulking up for The Wolverine

“I feel like all the planets are finally aligned”

Hugh Jackman is piling on the pounds again in order to slip on the razor claws of Wolverine – and he’s going to be beefier than ever before.

Preparing to star in Darren Aronofsky’s The Wolverine, Jackman has revealed that he’s consuming 6,000 calories a day in order to bulk up for the part.

Having gained 20lbs since 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he’s going to look even bigger than ever.

“Darren said with the last one, ‘Hey you looked great, but you're so tall that in those long shots you looked kind of like Clint Eastwood, and that's not Wolverine,’” he says.

“He said that Wolverine, in the comics, is powerful, stocky - you know, he's short and thick. So he said, ‘I want you to go there, get bigger.’”

Let’s just hope he doesn’t push it too far, eh? Meanwhile, the actor added that he’s sure The Wolverine will appease fans after the lacklustre response to Origins.

“I feel like all the planets are finally aligned to make a great movie. I think we're going to make one that people will describe as the best of the bunch.”

With Aronofsky in the director’s chair, who’s gonna doubt him?

Powerful? Or porker? Think Jackman's getting a bit too obsessed with his body building? Drop us your thoughts below...

I don't know, usually it all goes wrong when 'small' directors go big budget. Jeunet with Alien 4, Burton with planet of the apes.... But then again if all goes wrong we can hopefully expect one more personal little gem such as Amelie or Big Fish afterwards.

ping, i'd agree with you there but as always the fingers will be crossed and we can hope for the best that this one produces. personally i've always thought Jackson was a bit too small for wolverine, good to hear he is going to try and get "that" look a bit more.

I dont know about that, sometimes small directors are the best choice... Chris Nolan did alright with a couple of Batman films and something about 'Dreamspionage' and Peter Jackson did 3 films about a Ring and some wizards... To be honest I'd prefer if Arofonsky was working on Wolverine rather than Robocop. As long as Wolverine doesnt spend his time naked in a bubble or start sprouting a tail and fur...

good point Hadouken. I still have high hopes for Arofonsky's take on Wolverine. Finger's crossed, this can be brilliant.
