Hugh Jackman is insanely ripped in the first official photo from The Wolverine

First look at prequel-sequel

The Wolverine has unleashed its first official still, which shows off the movie's key selling point: an insanely ripped Hugh Jackman.

The sequel to X-prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine, this one promises to be a leaner, tougher affair than Logan’s disappointing first solo outing, stripping back the clutter to focus on one of the most popular periods in the character’s comic-book history: the time he spent training in Japan in Chris Claremont and Frank Miller’s ‘80s run.

Yep, if you can tear your eyes away from Jackman’s glistening, marble abs and lightning-strike veins, you can see just a hint of that oriental set design hovering in the background.

Jackman’s joined by a largely Japanese cast, as well as Korean-American actor Will Yun Lee as Kenuichio Harada (AKA the Silver Samurai).

James Mangold is in the director’s chair, after Darren Aronofsky dropped out early on.

The Wolverine
is set to open in summer 2013.

He looks very lean.. Didn't Aronofsky want him to be more like the comics, as in, stockier? Either way, you don't want to mess with him

I just hope that they get the 'feel' of the setting right. In the last one, at no point did it seem like it was set in the 60's (or 70's....in fact when the hell was it supposed to be set?).

Well yeah he looks ripped but that's completely different from being bigger, bulkier, stocky etc, the pic also looks a little superimposed.......I.e hi s head looking like it doesn't quite match his body? Of course I may just be seeing things but..... At least he's not fat, now they just gotta make the film ripped!.......

I'd love to see Wolverine as a 15/18. The whole frequent slicing and stabbing with no blood always felt a little off to me - more immoral than actually showing blood really? Not that this has anything to do with the picture but yeah.

Jackman's physique has never been the issue it's the scripts for Last Stand and Origins that let him down.

Gambit, one of the most cherished of the X-men, barely gets a look in,. Deadpool is known as 'The Merc with the mouth' So what do they do? SEAL UP HIS MOUTH. Face-palm narrative : ie " Lets kill him AFTER we make him indestructible" Rushed action sequences, yeah Origins was a mess, but its one redeeming feature was Schreibers' Sabretooth. Please bring him to Japan!

Is it too much to ask the person in charge of Total Film's website to ban these promotional comments ?
