Hugo Weaving and Ben Whishsaw have signed on to star in the Wachowskis’ long-in-gestation new sci-fi Cloud Atlas.
They join the confirmed likes of Tom Hanks and Halle Berry for the film, which is based on David Mitchell’s novel of the same name.
Cloud Atlas follows a collection of characters in different settings whose lives cross when they echo “down the corridors of history”, changing their destinies in numerous ways.
Which is just a fancy way of saying Atlas is just the kind of project you’d expect the Wachowskis’ to be interested in – thoughtful, complex, genre-splitting.
The duo are currently writing the film’s script alongside Run Lola Run’s Tom Twyker, while production is expected to kick off this autumn.
