Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis have finally, officially joined the cast of The Hobbit.
Swiftly following confirmation that Elijah Wood is reprising his role as diminutive hobbit Frodo in the two-parter, both McKellen and Serkis will be returning to Middle Earth as Gandalf and Gollum.
With Deadline reporting that Christopher Lee and Ian Holm are also considering returning, it looks like director Peter Jackson almost has a complete set.
Orlando Bloom’s apparent return is still not yet a done deal, though, with THR reporting that it’s uncertain if a contract with Bloom can be ironed out before filming commences.
Shooting kicks off this February, with the first Hobbit released in December 2012.

Dont worry about the Bloom... He's been living off that character for years now! He's a bad actor... simple.

I am a little sceptical about this story filling two movies. The Hobbit is not nearly as rich or complex as LOTR. After all it is a simple tale of "There and Back Again".

Nice. I wouldn't have minded different actors inhabiting the part of Gandalf, though. Don't get me wrong, Ian McKellen is great and was the perfect Gandalf for the Lord of the Rings, but it would've been nice to see another actor and his take on this character.

I may be a naive fool, but I'm utterly convinced that this will be brilliant. The best prequel ever made?

Why cant they just stick to the freakin book? There is really no need to include Rings characters unless they first appeared in The Hobbit. Simple really.

...and Dan Rose you're right, Bloom cant act and needn't be troubled for this, let him stick to his aftershave ads.
