Ian McKellen & Patrick Stewart join X-Men: Days Of Future Past

Magneto and Xavier sign on

Bryan Singer has tweeted some exciting news regarding X-Men: Days Of Future Past, with the director confirming that old hands Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will be returning to the fold.

Singer broke the news on the social networking site before also confirming the return of Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult.

How the two veteran’s will fit in remains to be seen, although the comic-book source material deals with alternate narratives, with part of the story taking place in a dystopian future where the mutant population is being terrorised by the Sentinels.

Kitty Pryde time travels from said future to warn the X-Men, which might be how McKellen and Stewart will be able to share the same film as Fassbender and McAvoy.

In any case, it will be nice to see the two old-stagers back in action, particularly if they get to share a few scenes together. X-Men: Days Of Future Past opens in the UK on 18 July 2014.

Finally the Sentinels get more than a brief cameo! That and who doesn't want to see Stewart and McKellan back together?

I hope we do get some of the original triliogy onboard (is it also too much to hope Disney/Marvel will allow anyone from the Avengers to at least be mention????) - but, has it been confirmed that the Sentinels for definate will appear? I really hope so, but there's always the chance that they could change it so the future is just a place where mutants are even more of an outcast without sentinels being involved - I'd imagine their involvement would raise the costs/budget really high?

Hmm I am not really digging this time travel idea.

Whether you think the overall idea sucks or not, you gotta admit... it would be really awesome to see an epic battle between Xavier/Magneto and Xavier/Magneto. What if the alternate versions have reversed views from each other, forcing them to ally with their alternate-reality former-enemy and wage war against themselves??
