Iron Man 3 adds a new villain, and Jon Favreau returns

Ashley Hamilton will play Firepower

Iron Man 3 has added another villain to its growing ensemble, with former Sunset Beach star Ashley Hamilton set to join the cast as Jack Taggert, otherwise known as Firepower.

In the Marvel universe, Taggert is the pilot of an experimental bodysuit designed by the programme, Project: Firepower. Typically, Taggert doesn't have his hands on Stark technology for long before wanting to use it against its creator…

With James Badge Dale also in line to play a potential villain in the form of Coldblood, and Ben Kingsley already in place as the film's big bad, we're keeping our fingers crossed that Shane Black doesn't stray into Spider-Man 3 territory with this one.

In other casting news, former director Jon Favreau has confirmed he'll be reprising his role as Happy Hogan, Tony Stark's driver-cum-bodyguard, so perhaps he'll be able to lend some advice as to how to juggle so many villains.

Iron Man 3 will open in the UK on 3 May 2013. Let's hope that's the last of the bad guys for this movie at least...

Could too many villains be a problem? Tell us your thoughts, below...

Who is Ashley Hamilton? Iron Man 3 is actually the first Marvel Film (of the Avenger Series) I am worried about. As much as I love Shane Black (I own every film he wrote and directed - Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang ) but I dont think he can pull off this type of film. I hope he makes me eat my words. Yes, Kenneth Brannagh was a left-field choice, but he had a pedigree with that type of melodrama Thor needed.

Don’t know who Ashley Hamilton is either? Googled him and he looks a complete co*k but there we go! Shane Black think he has only ever directed one film being Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang which was good but I remember thinking what a good script not what a great director so god only knows how it will turn out? Hope there is one stand out villain (Please let it be Ben Kingsley) though not multiple minor ones.

Apparently he's friends with Robert Downey Jnr and is somehow related to Rod Stewart (step son or something). Great, another bloke in a suit punching another man in a suit.

Too many villains always has the potential to become too bogged down, as Spiderman 3 did, but i've still got faith that studios have learned from that film's mistakes. My concern is not the amount of villains being talked about, but the type. They all seem like they're just high-tech-suit-wearing bad guys. Surely for a third outing we need something different, especially as this is post-Avengers.

hopefully they wont all be baddies in iron man 3, maybe they just appear & give them some back story before turning bad in iron man 4... if not then i agree its a bit of a worry that its going down the same road as spiderman 3

A great number of villains doesn't automatically bog down a film, a film will get bogged down if the villains aren't handled right. Only one villain should be the main villain. Personally my favorite Iron Man story is the Demon in the Bottle storyline where he deals with his alcohoism and fight Justin Hammer's gaggle of 100 minor supervillains.

Ashley Hamilton.....son of George Hamilton and ex-husband of Shannon Doherty. Also first eliminated from season 9 of Dancing With The Stars in the US. So......AWESOME, right? From having Jeff Bridge, Mickey Rourke, and Sam Rockwell play your villians to Ashley Hamilton. Total upgrade!
