Is The Road in trouble?

Viggo Mortensen's latest may not meet its release date

Apocalyptic adaptation The Road starring Viggo Mortensen may be in danger of not meeting its release date this year.

The film – a dark story of Mortensen as a man trying to get his son (Kodi Smit-McPhee) to safety in a bleak near-future world – is apparently nowhere near complete despite a looming December release date in the States.

Adapted from Cormac McCarthy’s novel and directed by The Proposition’s John Hillcoat, The Road had been touted as an awards contender this year, but is now the subject of worried whispers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Summit meeting

Producers and studio executives from Dimension and The Weinstein Company are expected to meet today to discuss whether the film can be finished in time to arrive this year, or whether it’ll get shoved into next year.

Our opinion? Everything about the film has looked intriguing so far – we just want it to be good whenever it emerges from the post-production stage.

I hope this turns out really well - the McCarthy book is astonishing. The stills I've seen look great, and the cast seems promising. Worrying that there isn't even a trailer yet, if the original release date was December... As long as it's good, I don't mind.
