Yes, X-Men Origins really did do well enough to deserve a sequel and, according to Hugh Jackman, they'll full speed ahead on the idea of sending him to Japan.
While one of the film's post-credits' teasers focused on Logan in the country, and Jackman has been vocal about his desire to get the story going, nothing has been official until now.
Talking to MTV, Jackman has confirmed that the focus will be on the four-issue miniseries created by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller.
“Japan is where we’re heading,” he says. "And we’re starting to work on it now. We’re in the first steps of developing that story.
“It’s my favorite saga of the Wolverine stories…That’s a movie I’ve longed to make from the beginning, so that’s where we’re heading.”
The comic plot finds him on the trail of his lady love Mariko Yashida, and his conflict with the ninja clan known as The Hand.
Whether it'll be a direct translation or a new take on the tale is yet to be decided, though it's bursting with the sort of torrid Wolvie-angst that the movies have loved so far, so we're sure they'll cram as much of that in as possible.
Sigh... After Origins, we're still not sure we need more Wolverine films. But that never stopped a studio before...
