James McAvoy in talks to play Frankenstein

Set to star opposite Daniel Radcliffe

Fox's upcoming version of Mary Shelley's classic Gothic nightmare, Frankenstein, looks to have found a star to play its title character, with James McAvoy reportedly entering talks with the studio.

McAvoy is thought to be the studio's top pick to play overreaching scientist Victor Von Frankenstein, having beaten away competition from the likes of Toby Kebbell and Jack Huston.

Should he sign on, McAvoy will star opposite Daniel Radcliffe, who is already confirmed to play Frankenstein's shuffling helper, Igor.

In a break from tradition, Igor will actually be the film's protagonist, with screenwriter Max Landis describing this new version of the seminal tale as "fun, sad, scary and moving."

Directed by Paul McGuigan, Frankenstein will open in the US on 17 October 2014, with a UK release date yet to be confirmed.
