Having recently been cast as the villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Jamie Foxx has dropped a couple of tidbits about playing Maxwell Dillon, better known to comic-book fans as Electro.
“I'm going to keep it close to the chest but I followed the Spider-Man comic books,” says Foxx of his take on the character. “And I would watch the television show growing up. It's a blessing.”
In the comics, Dillon is an electrical engineer who finds himself gifted the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning while working on a power line. It’s a big role for Foxx, a fact that the actor is well aware of.
“It's incredible,” he says. “Especially for my little daughter, who is there for the make-up tests and everything. It’s another testament to Quentin Tarantino because without Django, I wouldn't be doing Spider-Man.”
Directed by Mark Webb and co-starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Dane DeHaan, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will open in the UK on 18 April 2014.

I am very excited at the prospect of Jamie Foxx playing Electro, it really sounds like he’s a fit for the role. Before finding out that he would be the new villain, a coworker at DISH and I had been obsessively trying to guess which villain would be used. I like that they chose Electro rather than reusing one of the older ones. It also sounds like he is going to be an incredibly sympathetic villain, making me even more excited to see this movie. In preparation for it, I have been re-watching everything Spiderman using Blockbuster@Home from DISH. With my super busy schedule, I love that I can get everything delivered in the mail. It also helps that if I am feeling impatient, I have unlimited exchanges in a Blockbuster store. The first Amazing Spiderman really set forth a new story for my favorite superhero. So with a new villain being played by an amazing actor, this sequel sounds like it might even be better than the first.
