Jason Statham hits with Blitz

Playing a sociopathic cop

Looks like Jason Statham’s going to get even more brutal than usual: he’s agreed to play an aggro cop in Blitz.

Adapted from Ken Bruen’s by Moon writer Nathan Parker, Blitz finds a South London police squad facing serious issues. Crude, homophobic and quick-to-anger Brant (Statham) is in trouble for bashing a police psychologist. His chief inspector’s wife has just died and the young black WPC is having trouble fitting in.

Oh, and there’s Sergeant Porter Nash (Paddy Considine), who has to deal with Brant’s endless gay jibes.

But then things get worse when a serial killer starts slaughtering residents all over the place.

Elliott Lester is directing and novelist Bruen seems pretty happy with his choice of leading man…

"I think Jason Statham will really step up to the plate for Brant,” he tells the Crimespree Cinema blog. "He's been looking for a part to make his own and I think this is it."

And here we were thinking The Transporter was it. But we’re intrigued to see Statham as a truly nasty piece of work…
