French helmer Gela Babluani will make an English-language version of his thriller 13 Tzameti, with Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke and Control’s Sam Riley starring.
The Hollywood Reporter mentions that Babluani is at the helm for the Morabito Company, which has stumped up the cash to remake his thriller.
13 Tzameti, which nabbed the Grand Jury Prize at the 2006 Sundance film festival, finds a young man (Riley) stealing a mysterious package that draws him into an underground gambling ring.
50 Cent on board
Curtis Jackson – better known as 50 Cent is also aboard for the tale, which kicks off shooting next month in New York.
With Rourke flying high off The Wrestler and Statham’s career in high gear, it’ll be fun to see the pair square off on screen.
