Michael Bay and Shia LaBeouf are moving on from the Transformers franchise, but with Paramount keen to keep the money spinning, who to take the reins?
Well, if recent rumours are to be believed, none other than British ball-buster Jason Statham.
According to Showbiz Spy (uh, yeah), the Crank star is poised for the lead in Transformers 4, and will take the robo-series into a “darker” direction.
Whether that means the introduction of the actor’s favourite four letter expletives and new catchphrase “I’m going to nut me a decepticon!” remains to be seen.
Yes, this is all to be taken with a huge helping of salt - and no doubt a rumour cranked out thanks to the fact that Statham is currently dating T3 babe Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
Is the world ready for a Statham-led Transformers movie? Watch this space.

that sounds awesome. Transformers is a pretty annoying with LaBeouf and Bay, a dark direction with the Stath is defo the way forward!

I think you need a lead that can at least act as well as the cgi robots, so thats him out in my opinion.

I think we need to have the Transformers finally take the lead in their own movies.

Hadouken us cockneys don't go South of the river for no one, not even Optimus Prime. I can just see Statham saying to Megatron, don't mug me off mate or I'll feed ya to the pigs.

What was the reasoning behind this possible decision? "How can we make Transformers a bit more s**t?" "Oh yeah, grab that one note, bad actor who they claim is a great action star!" Good lord!

I thought the second movie was the one that was going darker.... and then they said it about this new one. In fact, they always say "this one is going to be darker"... they never are, stop saying it!!! It's as annoying as "it's not a remake, it's a re-imagining". As for the Stath, I think he's quite watchable (nobody, including him I imagine, claim he's a particularly good actor)... it's just the robots I find unwatchable. But then what do I know? It's making a s**t load of money

Aw this would be just amazing to see. The Stath & Prime kicking a*s together, much better than NONONONONONONONO , and Baysplosions. Cant believe Stath is dating that chick though , I actually think she is quite rough looking. And as far as her acting skills , she has none.

After the 1st one I refused to sit through the 2nd and 3rd....... but with Bay & Shia gone and with Statham taking the lead, I don't know, sounds tempting.

Stath could voice a robot i suppose, that woud be ok. Why do we need another lead, Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson are more than capable of stepping up..

Agreed. Duhamel and Gibson are proven draws. There is no character from canon that fits Statham's look, and taking it darker switches off the kid dollar, so that won't happen. Bay has already made it as violent as humanly possible for a PG13. Instead, might I offer this: Cronenberg directs, and we focus on the "headmasters" idea that humans are fused with cybertronian circuitry to become the heads or hearts of transformers, and transform with them? No? sod it then. Give it to LeTerrier and let's watch things go 'splodeyboom.
