The last we heard, Javier Bardem was in talks to play Bond 23's lead villain but he hadn't signed on the dotted line.
Well, it seems now he has, and we couldn't be happier.
Speaking to ABC's Nightline, Bardem responded to a question about his possible role as a villain in the new James Bond film with the following giddy statement:
“I am very excited, my parents took me to watch the movies, and I saw all of them, and to play that is going to be fun. They chose me to play this man, but I cannot give you many details.”
Which sounds like pretty solid confirmation to us.
Bardem is a brilliant actor and has already played one of our favourite movie villains ever - in No Country For Old Men, obvs - so we can't wait to see him face-off against Daniel Craig's Bond.
And with casting rumours still placing Ralph Fiennes as a secondary villain, 007 is going to have to raise his game if he wants to stop the sky from falling. Or whatever.

Fiennes as head of Quantum, Bardem as 'trusted' No. 2 - please!

Actually, I can see it the other way round, with Bardem as the head honcho at Quantum and Fiennes as his leading henchman/evil-dooer. Either way, it's superb heavy-weight casting and I can't wait to see the "sky" indeed "fall" :-) lol

I'd go with with TGA76 on the villain roles but either way round, this film could be the best bond yet

Please let him be Blofeld (or wait for Jason Issacs)... The last villain was weak, in fact there hasnt been a decent one since Renard. Bullet in the brain = no pain? Brilliant.

I loved Mads Mikkelsen in Casino Royale, the guy's a brilliant actor! This film is starting to look bloody brilliant.
