Bad news for director Rob Marshall and producer Harvey Weinstein: Javier Bardem has dropped out of their musical adaptation Nine.
Admitting that he’s exhausted after a busy working schedule and all the awards hoopla, the recent Oscar-scooper has decided to take a few months off to recharge. Apparently he phoned Weinstein up personally to see if Nine’s shoot could be shifted, but everything else, including co-stars Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz and Sophia Loren is already in place and now Marshall will need to find a new leading actor to play film director Guido Contini.
Oh, and Variety’s story also mentions that Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench are apparently deep in negotiations to join the cast.
