Dealing with the Holocaust on film can be a tricky proposition. But that hasn’t stopped directors being drawn to history’s most powerful emotional powder keg.
The latest to take up the challenge is no lesser talent than Paul Schrader, whose next film will be Adam Resurrected, set to star Jeff Goldblum.
Goldblum has signed on to play Adam Stein, a former circus clown who was given a heartwrenching choice: go to the gas chambers or entertain thousands of his fellow Jews who were headed for a similar fate. Eventually, he ends up at an asylum populated by Holocaust survivors in Israel’s Negev desert.
Based on Israeli novelist Yoram Kaniuk’s kudos-grabbing novel, Schrader plans to start shooting the film in spring next year.
