Jena Malone in the running for Catching Fire

But Mia Wasikowska is not

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is swiftly becoming a hotbed of casting rumours, with seemingly every hot young Hollywood star linked to at least one of the roles, before a new name crops up to take their place.

Earlier this week, we brought you the rumour that Mia Wasikowska was in line for the role of Johanna Mason, but now EW is claiming to have gleaned confirmation that the Australian has not been approached and would not be available in any case.

However, Lionsgate have got their eyes on potential candidates, with Jena Malone thought to be among the favourites to take the role. She's said to be in contention with Zoe Aggeliki, a model who can soon be seen opposite Elijah Wood in horror remake, Maniac.

Johanna Mason is a former tribute who returns to the Hunger Games arena when the past winners are forced into a kind of greatest hits edition of the bloodthirsty contest. Described as having, "a wicked ability to murder", Mason won her edition of the contest by playing possum and picking off her unsuspecting rivals one by one. Sneaky.

We'll be interested to know whether director Francis Lawrence preserves her grand entrance, in which she appears in front of Katniss stark naked, save for a pair of slippers. We'd suggest some creative camerawork to avoid getting the censors in a lather…

Catching Fire opens in the UK on 22 November 2013, giving Lionsgate little room for manoeuvre if they're to hit their proposed deadline. Expect some confirmed casting as a result, sooner rather than later...

Would Malone be a good pick for Mason? Tell us below!

i'm asking them to ban him permanently. i know its asking a lot since as you say he can just create a new account but it just cant go on. he is posting comments that aren't just rants. they are promoting hatred towards people based on disability or sexuality. i dont mind his crappy taste in films or his predilection for lists copied and pasted from IMDB, or even his explicit fantasies (i can ignore them, and we are all adults right?). its his right to post this c**p and our right to express our disagreement. but the hatred needs to stop permanently. I know im not judge and jury and yes, i probably do need to 'get over myself', but i'm sick of the hate and i dont know what else to do...

But it's funny. Nobody's taking him on, surely. Everyone knows he's an idiot and frequently makes fun of him for it and it's funny. I don't think I've ever come across any of his sexist or disablist comments though. Maybe I'd change my mind.

check out the transformers 4 article on most commented news items for the disablist comments (wishing some was 'in a wheelchair with the big C, using the word m**g). as for the hate towards people based on their sexuality, i dont remember the article but he has referrred to bisexual people as 'half breed mongrels' and deserving of a 'good kicking'. i know we shouldn't take him seriously and for the most part i dont but the hate needs to stop. and yes i know im inviting ridicule myself with this, but im sick of his bile.

Surely you just have to ignore him and not respond to his comments. I have to say, a lot of the times dozens and dozens of comments have appeared its because people have got into arguments with him. Just don't rise to it and only respond to comments to do with the actual movie/article.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion. im of the opinion though that slurs based on someone's (presumed) sexuality or disability are never acceptable no matter the circumstances. i know i sound like a pompous t**t but if he were making racist comments we couldn't just ignore that...?

It's true he has spouted some vile slurs against people that really don’t deserve it, in addition to alienating people and posting probably the worst insults I have ever read (in a chat room) you have to think about the people who come on this site just to talk about movies and cant because dalidab has an issue with everyone and the only way he can have an outlet for his demons is to insult people and try and get a rise out of them? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but it doesn’t make them right
