Jennifer Connelly helps the Earth Stand Still

She’s signed up for the sci-fi remake

Now that the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still, or, as we prefer to know it, Proof That Truly Nothing Is Sacred is now back in full motion, it’s swiping up a cast to join Keanu Reeves as Klaatu.

Jennifer Connelly is the first aboard Scott Derrickson’s attempt to outdo Robert Wise, snatching the Helen Benson role, which was played by Patricia Neal in the 1951 original. And there’s also Kathy Bates, who is circling an unknown part in the movie, though we’re pretty certain it’s not giant robot Gort.

20th Century Fox has booked space in Vancouver soundstages and Derrickson will start cranking the cameras in December, based on a script by Ryne Douglas Pearson and David Scarpa.
