Jennifer Garner is the new Miss Marple

We’re as baffled as you are

jennifer garner

Jennifer Garner has signed on to play legendary detective Miss Marple in a new movie inspired by Agatha Christie’s novels.

Which either means the 38-year-old actress is going to receive a very wrinkly, very expensive Benjamin Button-style make-over, or the producers are looking to sex Miss Marple up. A lot.

THR note that Disney Pictures are looking to “modernise” the elderly detective instead of going for the tried and true period approach.

Which clearly means Marple is now going to be a New York singleton who fights crime on the days when she's not dreaming about finding the love of her life and attending yoga classes.

Keeping in line with all the weirdness, Disney have already hired a scribe in the form of Twin Peaks’ Mark Frost. Next they’ll be saying a dancing dwarf and a prophetic giant have to be in the story.

Miss Marple’s adventures began in Agatha Christie’s novel The Thirteen Problems, published in novel form in 1930. Since then she’s been the subject of numerous TV and stage productions.

Marple? Or madness? Outraged that our beloved heroine is getting a complete make-over? Drop your comments below...

I think she'll be really good in this role. She's a very prim and polite kind of actor and she's only gone for the rom-com roles to make a name for herself. See Juno for the real Garner. Tie her hair back and take off the slap and there you go.

Hold the phone. Is this an April Fool? Cos it IS only 3 days away, so if there are any more of the crazy announcements, I'm gonna get rather suspicious.

I love how BBC renewed Sherlock Holmes in the tv-series Sherlock, but this seems a bit extreme. I am a bit skeptical about it not being British as well as Miss Marple being played by Jennifer Garner. But who knows, it might just turn out great.

That sound you can hear is a poor Agatha turning in her grave! I'm sure Helen Mirren would be great, why go younger?!?!

A sexy Miss Marple. It could work, if it wasn't for the fact that everytime i hear that name i think of joan hickson. hollywood is becoming a joke now-a-days. What's next, Shia Le(Talentless)beouf as Bergerac, Ashton Kuctdduhdeuh(the one Demi's shagging) as Poirot or Zac Efron as The Equalizer. Next you'll be saying their making a Professionals movie........................................................... oh for f**kS SAKE.

Making a younger Miss Marple is one thing, but a modern Miss Marple in NEW YORK!? Thats a disgrace.

Don't the Americans ever get tired of producing rubbish, as this effort is likely to be. If they use an elderly English actress, and if they stick closely to the books and English locations, and if the director is a decent one, they might get close to to doing a half decent version of Miss Marple. I've seen the Joan Hickson TV series version, it is the only one to whatch. I've seen the Jeraldene MaCewan (hope I've spelt the name right?) version, good but not that good. Angela Lansbury, if she's still alive, definitely NO. If the film version get's close to the Joan Hickson version, it could be a winner. Yeah, like that's likely to happen. As a side note, Joan Hickson was friends with Agatha Christie, and it is said that some or all of the Miss Marple books were written with Joan Hickson in mind.

If it;s in modern times, is it going a descendant of Miss Marple. Will we see her knitting?
