John Boorman rebuilds Hadrian

The life of the wall-building Roman emperor will be filmed…

John Boorman is something of a specialist when it comes to sword-laden epics. He’s been considering a film about the Roman Emperor Hadrian  - best remembered for building the wall between England and Scotland to keep the northern hordes at bay – and now it looks like he has the cash to make it.

He’s teamed up with Handmade Films to nab the rights to Marguerite Yourcenar’s novel Memoirs Of Hadrian, which Rospo Pallenberg will adapt. Boorman is searching for an actor to play the leading role and he’ll start shooting next spring in Morocco before moving to Rome and Spain.

Variety is in a conquering mood.
