After months of tumbleweed twisting in the wind whenever anyone asks about Star Trek casting (not to mention director JJ Abrams giving nothing but sly winks), the announcements have started to fly thick and fast. If you thought we were going to say “at warp speed”, think again. We’re not that bad.
John Cho has beamed aboard (d’oh!) the Enterprise to play Hikaru Sulu, helmsman, and the role made famous by George Takei in the original series and movies.
It’s yet another odd choice for Abrams, though not quite out of leftfield as Simon Pegg getting the nod as Scotty. And we haven’t really seen Cho handle drama, so we’re crossing our fingers he’s got the right stuff for Sulu.
