John Landis has started a war of words with 20th Century Fox, after revealing that the studio aren't happy with son Max Landis' first script for upcoming sci-fi sequel, Chronicle 2.
Landis Jr. was responsible for penning the original film that performed so admirably with critics and punters alike, but according to his old man, there has been some butting of heads over the direction for round two.
“[Max] wrote a sequel, and it’s amazing, and the studio read it and said, ‘We want Chronicle again!’" says Landis Sr. "And he said, ‘No, this is the sequel, it’s the evolution,’ and they said ‘No, we want that movie again!’ So it’s difficult, we’re dealing with a difficult business."
All of which sounds entirely plausible, although just how helpful it will be to take the argument public remains to be seen. We're all for fatherly support, but Fox probably won't be thrilled to hear Landis' comments on the matter.
Hopefully, Landis Jr. will be allowed to take the series in the direction he thinks best. There are already rumours that director Josh Trank won't be returning for Part Two, so we'd at least like to see some of the creative DNA behind the first movie on show. Come on boys, everybody play nicely...

Mother Chuffing studio executives have absolutely no chuffing balls. "Don't do something new, that's too scary for us! Just keep repeating something that already made us money until it stops making us money, then we'll be really surprised when something new makes money again! Did I mention 'money'?"

I wonder if you made a film about 20th Century Fox and how the executives are greedy monsters who are bleeding Hollywood of its creative juice and it made a c**p load of money. Would they ask for more of the same for a sequel? They probably would the soulless creeps.

Studio executives don't know anything about making movies... NOTHING. Financing and greenlighting yes, but they are creatively barre, thats why they are studio executives. Hey someone greenlight Hungry Hungry Hippos!

That's REALLY shortsighted of Fox. Audiences want their franchises to be more like novels nowadays, which each part leading into and out of the others. They won't go to see Chronicle if it's got a bad case of remake-itis ... or even worse ... reboot-itis!

I'd rather just see Chronicle as a one off.

I think there's plenty of unanswered questions from the first one. What was the source of the glowing rock thing? are the government after Matt now? What is he going to do with his powers? I would welcome a sequel
