John Moore to direct Die Hard 5

Convinces Bruce Willis he's the man for the job

The dream is over: Joe Cornish won't be directing Die Hard 5. Instead that job goes to John Moore.

The fifth film in the Die Hard franchise does a Police Academy 7 and sends cop John McClane to Russia.

Cornish (Attack The Block), Nicolas Winding Refn (Valhalla Rising), Justin Lin (Fast Five) and Moore (Max Payne) were all known to be in the running to helm.

Deadline.com reports that Fox also had conversations with Gary Fleder (Runaway Jury), Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin) and Mikael Hafstrom (1408).

Moore was the initial favourite for the job after original Die Hard 5 director Noam Murro jumped ship for Warner Bros' 300: Battle Of Artemisia

Still, Moore only got the gig after meeting with Bruce Willis – who tends to have a say in who directs Die Hard movies – and convincing him of his respect for the character of McClane and his ability to do practical stunts rather than rely on CG.

Does Moore's back catalogue (Max Payne, The Omen, Flight Of The Phoenix, Behind Enemy Lines) mark him out as the man for the job? Or is this gonna be another tough day for officer John McClane? Your thoughts should explode below like a chopper that's been hit by a flying car.

Poor old John Mctiernan not only looking at jail time, but having to watch the legacy of both his classics, (Predator and Die Hard) get butchered by X-box generation muppets. Hopefully Moore will be the exception to the rule.

What is McTiernan doing nowadays? It would be great to see him come back and do a follow up Die Hard or Predator film. I love the Die Hard films (yes that includes Die Hard 4.0, I thought it was great entertainment), I'm looking forward to the return of Mr McClane, it is Willis' signature role whether he likes it or not, I just hope they give him a decent villain to fight this time. They've all been fine but none have topped Hans Gruber from the first film, you actually felt he was someone not to trifle with, whereas the others were bog-standard IMO. Of course if this one is set in Russia, then a Russian mob-boss would be the obvious villainous choice ... just make him/her scary and someone who you feel McClane has his work cut out taking down.

The last film Mctiernan did was Basic? I think.. he slipped up badly with the Rollerball remake and then seemed to slip off into obscurity. Pity, DIe Hard and Predator are awesome films. I quite like John Moore.. his films are s**t but his heart is in the right place

Moore is a good honest foul mouthed Irishman. As long as he allows McClane to say Wippikaah m**********r it will be better then that last one...Although his back catalogue isn't the best in the world, he might do something with it!

Yeh Trist808 ...Predator 3 directed by John Mctiernan, starring Schwarzennegger, the ultimate comeback movie for both! ( I see Predators as an Add-on rather than a actaul sequel)
