Jon Hamm talks Mad Men Season 5

Exclusive: Don Draper on set

In the latest issue of Total Film magazine, we pour ourselves a mid-morning whisky and stroll onto the stylish ‘60s set of Mad Men.

We chatted to creator Matthew Weiner and his cast, including Don Draper himself, Jon Hamm.

Season 5 sees Don at a bit of crossroads, having recently married his much-younger secretary Megan (Jessica Paré), and hitting the big 4-0.

“Don’s age – and being called ‘old’ by Megan – is very significant,” Hamm told us.

“The ‘60s were when youth began to become an important commodity, but now we see Don being marginalised by the younger characters.”

And outside of the office, there’s still plenty to be uncover from Draper’s mysterious history, with Hamm explaining: “There’s a lot of his past still to be mined, and a lot of that is revealed and explored this season.”

But Don’s in a good place now, with a beautiful wife and wide grin, right? “I wouldn’t get too married to that smile,” Hamm warns intriguingly.

Mad Men Season 5 is currently showing on Sky Atlantic HD.

Why are we getting news updates on a Sunday? Unusual. But I like it.

SKY always kidnaps the best telly from terrestrial ( 24, Lost etc..) , and then wonders why the viewing figures drop by 75%.

I have tried watching series one of this, and apart from falling in lust with Christina Hendricks, what is it about the show? I got half way through and got very bored. is it worth sticking with it? or am I just not getting it?

@Indianabones- I don't think its for you, I like the show but its so understated you could summarize the first season in a sentance. You'll know by the first few episodes if you like it. On a separate note, who else really wants to go drinking with Roger Sterling?

Nothing about how lame the new series is?
