Josh Brolin has been talking about the new Oldboy remake, and has suggested that he prefers Spike Lee’s director’s cut to the version that will hit cinemas.
The theatrical cut will clock in at around 104 minutes, but Lee has also created a three hour version, with Brolin suggesting that he prefers the latter to the former.
“I do have opinions,” says Brolin, “but it’s better to bite my tongue.” Top marks for Oldboy in-jokery there, Josh…
Meanwhile, the film hasreleased a new trailer online, in which director Spike Lee uses news broadcasts of various world events to ram home just how long lead character Joe (Josh Brolin) is imprisoned for.
The trailer picks up with Joe waking up in a strange hotel room, before showing him reacting to the likes of 9/11 and the election of President Obama, before eventually being released out of the blue.
Whereas the previous red-band trailer homed in on the film’s abundance of violent action, this latest effort does a better job of introducing the plot and fleshing out the lead characters.
Take a look at the new trailer, below…
Directed by Lee and co-starring Elizabeth Olsen, Michael Imperioli and Samuel L. Jackson, Oldboy will open in the UK on 6 December 2013.
