Joss Whedon calls Planet Hulk movie rumour ‘nonsense’

The comic-book storyline won't influence Avengers 2 & 3

Joss Whedon has categorically denied the rumours that Planet Hulk will serve as an inspiration for the events in The Avengers 2 and 3.

In an interview with IGN, Whedon was asked if there was any weight behind the claims that the Planet Hulk and World War Hulk comic-book storylines would be used in future Avengers movies.

Whedon’s succinct response was, “Well, I’m really not supposed to comment, but no, that’s nonsense."

And with that, hopes of seeing a space-set standalone Hulk movie with Gladiator overtones are dashed. Well, unless you’ve already seen the lame direct-to-DVD animated adaptation.

Without a wild story arc and a chance to flex his ginormous green muscles in a larger universe, it’s hard to know how Hulk could satisfyingly lead his own movie, which goes some way to explaining why a solo vehicle for Bruce Banner’s alter ego has yet to be confirmed for Marvel’s Phase Two or Three.

Iron Man 3, Marvel’s first Phase Two movie, opens in the UK on 26 April 2013. The Avengers 2 follows on 1 May 2015.

Are you relieved or gutted to hear that Whedon has trashed the Planet Hulk rumour? Talk to us, below…

Which month have we lost to make way or this? I'm guessing it won't be long before Disney buy one.

I'm game for Marvel having their own month. Back to the topic at hand, the animated movie wasn't that bad.

relieved, the whole planet hulk/WWH arc wouldn;t work for phase3 its just rushing a lot of work, plus you need mr fantastic invovled in some way (cant see how to get round that) Phase 4? possibly, but the hulk needs his own allocated screen time
