Sam Mendes’ latest is turning into a right old Titanic acting reunion. The latest thesp to join waterlogged leads Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio is Kathy Bates, who played Molly Brown in the sea-borne epic.
She’ll play Mrs Givings, who sells DiCaprio and Winslet their home and introduces them to the Connecticut town where they’ve arrived to kick off a new life. But the pastoral bliss doesn’t last long – their relationship degenerates into a never-ending cycle of jealousy, arguments and recrimination.
David Harbour, Michael Shannon and Zoe Kazan are also jumping aboard the movie to play a neighbour, Bates son and DiCaprio’s secretary respectively.
Justin Haythe has adapted the script from Richard Yates’ book, and Mendes will roll the cameras in June.
