Keanu Reeves leads 47 Ronin

He’s playing an avenging Samurai

Universal has chosen Keanu Reeves to play a samurai swordsman who avenges his master’s death in 47 Ronin.

Variety reports that the based-on-truth-tale is set in 18th century Japan and will be a stylised take on the story.

Wanted’s co-writer Chris Morgan is on scripting duty and will tailor the script so that Keanu can convincingly use his half-Asian status to play one of the warriors.

Shooting next year

The film will apparently start shooting next year once a director has been tracked down.

Let's hope Reeves remembers his Matrix martial arts skills... He's going to need them!
