Ken Watanabe joins Godzilla remake

David Strathairn also on board

Gareth Edwards' Godzilla remake continues to add stellar names to its impressive ensemble, with Ken Watanabe the latest actor to sign on the dotted line.

The unveiling of Watanabe comes just days after David Strathairn joined the project, with the duo joining the likes of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Juliette Binoche, Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen already confirmed.

The new film will obviously contain rather a lot of building-smashing mayhem, but it's encouraging that this time around, the human side of proceedings shouldn't be so ham-fisted as it was in Roland Emmerich's effort.

Plot details remain vague as yet, although we have heard tell that Godzilla won't be the only giant beastie on the prowl in the reboot. Mothra anyone? Just a thought.

With a newly-polished script by Frank Darabont, Godzilla will come stomping into US cinemas on 16 May 2014. We can hardly wait...

What are you hoping to see from the reboot? Tell us, below!

Always liked Watanabe since seeing him in The Last Samurai. Would love to see him as some rogue Japanese general who's obsessed with killing Godzilla.

Ken Watanabe is one of my favorite actors out there, he's a classy actor.
