Kevin Costner could be about to sign up to Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot.
Deadline report that Costner, whose lacklustre output of late has included Rumour Has It and The New Daughter, is in talks for a “key role” in the film.
Assuming that Lex Luthor’s either out of the picture, or going to a younger actor, that generally leaves Daily Planet editor Perry White, Clark Kent’s father or Superman’s pa Jor-El.
Realistically, we imagine it’ll be Pa Kent that gets thrown Costner’s way – while replacing Frank Langella as Superman Returns’ Perry White will be no mean feat.
Igorning Costner's more recent output, it's easy to forget that the actor was once a big Hollywood draw.
His Dances With Wolves still stands up as a fair achievement, while JFK and The Untouchables are both stellar. Costner's definitely due a comeback - given the right material, he could be great again.
Currently the only cast member officially signed to Snyder’s Superman is Henry Cavill as the titular hero.

Hel'' play the human adoptive father.... all Amercian, wholesome, everyman.... decent casting... get some solid and generally 'experienced' actors around Cavill and this could get better... Who to play the mother? Meryl Streep? Sally Field??

As someone who has no clue what Kingdom Come Superman is, I'm guessing Costner would make a good Pa Kent, DanRose's idea about more experienced actors around Cavill sounds bang on to me

"...Dances With Wolves still stands up as a fair achievement..."? It's GREAT, don't be so stingy with your praise, TF. I mean, James Cameron obviously likes it a lot... But anyway, his third directorial effort Open Range was one of the best westerns of the last twenty years, beautifully shot with a stunning final shoot-out. I'd say he's been doing rather well for himself recently, just in a much lower key than his 80s/90s heyday. He makes the films he wants to make, and unlike a lot of rich actors, he puts his money where his mouth is by dipping in his own pocket (if you'll forgive the mangled metaphor), co-financing them himself. People forget what a good actor he is, post**terworld, but I'm excited about this casting; he'll be a perfect successor to Glenn Ford and hopefully he'll get a big payday so he can use it to get that WW2 film he wanted to make with Christoph Waltz off the ground.

Why was the phrase 'post - Waterworld' censored? I know it's no classic, but for even the messageboard server to take offence seems a bit harsh...

Oh, t w a t, now I get it... Anyway, it just occurred to me that with this news and Scott Glenn in Sucker Punch, Snyder is clearly working his way steadily through the cast of Silverado. So, using that logic, Linda Hunt for Ma Kent?

I reckon For the love of the Game comes a joint last ...yeah 1985 was his best year, Silverado, Fandango both favourites of all time. The ending of Fandango can make a grown man cry.

Re: Fandango - yes, he's done a couple like that. Show me a man who says he doesn't cry at Field Of Dreams and I'll show you a liar.

Get the feeling this is a bit of Nolan influence here. Fleshing out the supporting cast with damn fine actors. Always liked The Costinator. Be nice to have him back on the big screen. Now if only we can get rid of 's**t Snyder' as director we may have a decent film on the cards. That guy is pure pure w**k. He f****d up 'Watchmen' why let him do the same to 'Supes'.

Good to hear Kevin Costner is back in a Major movie release, I still think he has a lot to offer Hollywood... @BruceShark, Snyder will do Superman a hell of a lot better than the most recent piece of s**t... Give him a chance, I think he knows he is under more intense scrutiny than any other project he's had a hand in...

Without scrolling up to find out who said this but YES to Sally Field as Martha Kent. I think she would be amazing. I think if the have Costner as Jonathan Kent is could be a potential waste as he dies. Unless Snyder plans on having him alive till the end then his death setting Supes up for a sequel. I think the two actors will make great parents for Cavill's Clark.
