Kevin Feige talks Thanos

How will Marvel’s big bad fit in?

When it comes to Marvel, Phase Two is the hot topic of the moment, and nothing is hotter than how Thanos will fit into the picture.

Having made his big bow in the final moments of The Avengers, the intergalactic baddie is set to play a big part in Marvel’s next stage, and head honcho Kevin Feige has taken the time to explain how he might fit in…

“There’s a great track record now about lobbing something in at the last moment to get the audience buzzing,” he explains. “Particularly when it came to Thanos, [we knew] that most people in that audience had no idea who that purple guy was — but they could clearly tell he was important, and knew if they asked the two or three people sitting next to them, somebody would know who he was.

“Clearly, there’s a purpose to us putting him in the end of that movie,” he continues. “We do have plans for him. I wouldn’t say we ever feel the need to rush anything one way or the other. We succeeded in Phase One because we stuck to our guns and stuck to the plan. That plan took place over many, many years and it ultimately paid off.”

“I see Phase Two unfolding in the same way of us taking our time, us doing what’s right for each individual movie, while folding in elements that will not only build up to the culmination of Phase Two, but even Phase Three.”

No doubt Thanos will feature in some way or another in the Iron Man, Thor, and Capt America sequels, likely in some close credit cut scene, maybe in a Marvel One Shot, possibly a primary antagonist working behind the scenes in at least one of those story arcs. Either way we can all be sure to see him again long before Avengers 2.

First of all i would like to say that to what you said about the audience not knowing who thanos is. that fact that almost 80% (sparing a few people just staying in the cinema because they see other people havent left yet) of the cinema already left before this scene come on after the starting credits, just goes to show that 1. that there all just fan boys that come along because they happen to watch either iron 1/2 or captain america and wanted to see them again. and 2. they just dont care lol. 3. only people that did a quick check on google to see if or where the after credit's scene 4. only people that really have a passion for all this anyway would of already known who he is by either reading the comics or watching the animated movies, would of stayed to see as they are accustomed to marvels routine of this anyway.

Sorry for totally going off the point but it had to be said. but in answer to what you asked last. i think thanos is more than likely to appear in the next Thor movie more than another. And its nice to see that this was the plan from the start with all the movies nicely paced out (but still tied together in someway) to get a BIG climactic 'phase 1', than marvel just taking it as it come's after each movie.

On a similar themed note, has anyone else seen the extra pos-credits scene on the Blu-Ray (and i assume DVD) where the Avengers are sat around in that Schwarma (or whatever it was called) joint? Was this also on the cinema release, or was it added especially for the home cinema releases?

He may feature slightly in other Phase 2 films, but no doubt he'll feature heavily in Guardians Of The Galaxy. I'm just ultra geeked that Phase 2 looks to have the best villains, like Mandarin, Enchantress & Executioner, and I dunno how much of a villain he'll be, but Winter Soldier too! Wonder what Odin has planned for Loki...

Yeah he should definitely feature in Guardians Of The Galaxy, I also hope he'll appear briefly in Thor 2 by stealing some sort of cosmic weapon from Asgard. Also shouldn't The Red Skull be by his side ?

I agree with Alli1748 he has to make an appearance in Guardians Of The Galaxy, and I hope he returns for The Avengers 2 along with the Infinity Gauntlet (which could be mentioned it Thor: The Dark World). An other idea I would like to see is a villain team up, something like the Masters of Evil in which Red skull could make a return

I thinkt he chances are that he will be mentioned or get a brief post credit scene in Thor: The Dark World. Then he will definetly appear in GOTG at some point.
