Ever since Paul Verhoeven brought us the OTT battle madness adapted from Robert Heinlein’s Starship Troopers, we’ve been waiting for a follow-up that captures the spirit of that original bug fest.
Sadly, despite FX whiz Phil Tippett at the helm and original scribe Ed Neumeier at the keyboard, Starship Troopers 2: Hero Of The Federation was not that follow-up. Our hopes are much higher for the third instalment, Marauder, which finds Neumeier both writing and directing. And though it’s straight-to-DVD (hardly a crime these days) and features a fragment of the budget, it does boast Casper Van Diem back as Johnny Rico and a healthy dose of the satirical info-blasts we so loved in Verhoeven’s film.
