Having co-written the likes of Amores Perros and Babel certainly helps when it comes to casting your directorial debut: just ask Guillermo Arriaga.
He’s already snagged the services of Charlize Theron to star in The Burning Plain, and now Kim Basinger will also take a lead role. Plain follows a typical Arriga path, stitching together two storylines that take place in the present and the past. Theron’s playing Sylvia, a woman trying to make peace with her parents after a rough childhood, while Basinger will play her mother in flashback, with the two plotlines finally merging.
Given what we know about Arriaga’s writing we’ll say this – expect crying, and lots of it. He’ll kick off shooting early next month in Mexico.
