For years now we’ve been hearing vague murmurings of a new Friday Night Lights movie that would pick up where the superlative series left off. However, Kyle Chandler has rather spoiled the party by suggesting he wouldn’t want to be involved.
Chandler played team coach Eric Taylor in Peter Berg’s well-received series that ran for five series before coming to an end in 2011. However, as far as he’s concerned, there’s no more story to tell.
“My general attitude about Friday Night Lights is, it was a great movie with Billy Bob [Thornton]. It was a great TV show. I never had more fun doing anything. But they ended it at exactly the right time, and exactly the right way as well.”
That sounds pretty conclusive to us, and would seem to throw a spanner in the works of any potential movie. Peter Berg has long expressed an enthusiasm for the idea, but to have to recast his leading man might be too much for his audience to accept.
Still, should he present Chandler with a genuinely compelling script, this may all change again. However, it seems as though a FNL box-set will have to keep the fans going for the immediate future…
