Lars von Trier planning a disaster

Melancholia will be a psycho-drama sci-fi…

Fresh from shoving the boundaries of horror with Antichrist, Lars von Trier will tackle a destructive sci-fi drama with Melancholia.

The cheery-sounding title refers to a massive planet that veers close to our own, no doubt wreaking and causing plenty of damage, as von Trier himself gleefully comments "No more happy endings!"

But don't expect the filmmaker to suddenly come over all Roland Emmerich - he's sticking to a budget.

"As a disaster movie, Melancholia will use some special effects, but nothing compared to Hollywood," says financier Peter Aalbaek Jensen says.

The film will shoot next year and we're already wondering what controversy it'll throw up.

How many f##king tenets of dogme is this going to break? I thought one of the commandments was to eschew genre movies. What next, a buddy comedy with Martin Lawrence and Adam Sandler?
