Laurence Fishburne stirs The Alchemist

He’s getting a passion project off the ground…

You can say this about Laurence Fishburne – he doesn’t give up on something he believes in. After Warners nabbed the rights to Paulo Coelho’s philosophical adventure The Alchemist – which the studio quickly boiled down to the description “Harry Potter meets Indiana Jones” – in 2003 for him to star in, the actor has stayed attached.

And now he’s gone one better. Since the film has languished in development since then, Fishburne has nabbed the rights to the film, bashed out the screenplay and now wants to direct it.

The story follows a traveller searching the world during the religious Inquisition to discover man’s purpose in the world. The book is a bestseller, so you can imagine that Larry F won’t have too much trouble rustling up some cash.
