Lawrence Kasdan fires up Robotech

Empire Strikes Back scribe nabs new sci fi gig…

Lawrence Kasdan, the man behind the keyboard (or typewriter back then) for the likes of The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders Of The Lost Ark, has been hired to write the updated version of anime classic Robotech for Warners.

Tobey Maguire is producing the film, with The Dark Knight’s Chuck Roven and The Da Vinci Code’s Akiva Goldsman also jumping aboard. Kasdan will be bringing the story of Earth’s titanic struggle against alien invasion to the screen, a battle loaded with huge robot vehicles than humanity built based on crashed UFO technology. Bring on the giant robots!

While it’s true that The Hollywood Reporter had full details today, we’re actually going to give most of the credit for this to the boys over at CHUD, who heard the news from their sources on Friday.
