Lee Daniels planning Miss Saigon movie

Precious director is considering the idea…

Lee Daniels, who is winning praise for his new film Precious: Based On The Novel Push Bt Sapphire, is mulling the idea of turning Miss Saigon into a film.

While it's still to early to say if he'll commit to it as his next project, it looks like he'll have some major producing support - Paula Wagner is backing the film as her first job since leaving Tom Cruise's faltering United Artists.

There's still the small matter of a script to be written, and whoever tackles the job will have to stay faithful to Claude-Michael Schonberg and Alain Boubil's story of ill-fated love between a Vietnamese girl and a US soldier before the fall of Saigon in 1975.

It's been a massive hit on the stage since it opened in London in 1989, but it won't exactly be an easy show to translate into a film.

Variety has the story today, but the real credit for the early scoop goes to the team over at Coming Soon
