Len Wiseman will direct Universal’s Mummy reboot

“It’s a scarier version”

Universal’s forthcoming resurrection of The Mummy has taken a step closer to fruition, with the announcement that Len Wiseman will fill the director’s chair.

The Total Recalldirector will take on yet another remake, with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman currently working on the script, and according to Wiseman, this version of The Mummy will be significantly scarier than those that have gone before.

“When I first heard Universal was relaunching this, that is the image that popped into my head,” he explains. “The period tale, the old monster… but when Bob and Alex pitched it, there was a great new take and approach, and a very different mummy as well. It’s a darker twist on the material, a scarier version.”

It’s a view that Kurtzman has already been pushing, having previously claimed that the film will take its cues from the ‘30s original, “at its beating heart a horror movie, and then an action movie.”

The studio is apparently extremely keen to get things moving on its latest monster movie revival, with The Mummy expected to come shambling into cinemas in 2014. If that’s to be achieved, production will likely begin next year, meaning we should have some more news sooner rather than later…

Is Wiseman a good fit for the project? Tell us, below!

Now all they need to do is secure the services of Colin Farrell.

What are the chances of Kate Beckinsale being in this?

Good lord, why? Let Wiseman has made one soulless piece of trash after another and continues to get high profile directing gigs. Is it because his films make lots of money? No-one has ever, EVER been excited to see a Lent Wiseman film! They made big bucks for other reasons, like being a remake of an already popular movie (Total recall) or an unnecessary addition to an established, much loved franchise (Die hard 4.0). I think he gets work because he does as he is told. He has no vision of his own, he just takes the studio's notes and makes THEIR movie for THEM, rather than our movie, for us, the f@cking customer. Take the money and run Len you gutless little studio puppet, just be assured that not one penny of said money will come from my pocket.

With less talent than P WS Anderson. I hate to defend the defiler of 'Resident Evil', but the guy still has 'Event Horizon' a better and less pretentious sci fi horror than 'Prometheus', as well as the brazenly stupid (in a good way) Friday night filler 'Death Race' .

Kate Beckinsale's playing the bandages. They're leather bandages. It's a sexy mummy film.
