The Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival has announced its line-up at a morning press call and the event – running from 14-29 September – looks like being the best yet. As, incidentally, was the coffee.
Artistic Director Sandra Hebron was on hand to announce the films that – important this – THE PUBLIC HAVE A CHANCE OF SEEING, starting off with the ones we already know about, Fantastic Mr. Fox and closes with Nowhere Boy.
Other highlights that are simply easier to list: The Men Who Stare At Goats (starring George Clooney, he’s pitching up in Blighty to say hello), Up In The Air (starring George Clooney, he’s pitching up in Blighty to say hello), A Serious Man (by the Coen Brothers, they’re pitching up), The Informant! (by Steven Soderbergh, he’s pitching up) and Toy Story 2 in 3D. Which will be eye-popping.

Throw in Cannes highlights you probably haven’t seen yet such as Haneke’s White Ribbon, Jacques Audiard’s A Prophet and – oh yes – Enter The Void and if there isn’t something for you in among the 146 UK premieres (Sexy Beast boys reteam 44 Inch Chest, The Road bla bla), then you should probably switch to cooking as a hobby.
Full details of screenings, master classes and more screenings are available on www.bfi.org.uk/lff and tickets will be ready from 26 September for THE PUBLIC. Yes, that’s you. Stick to totalfilm.com for daily updates throughout the festival.

Typo in the first paragraph - the festival is in October. Looks like a great line-up!
