Liev Schreiber takes Salt

Chiwetel Ejiofor's also on board the spy thriller

Liev Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor are negotiating to star opposite Angelina Jolie in Phillip Noyce’s spy thriller Salt.

The film’s been through a fair few changes – it was originally intended for Tom Cruise, but then went through a cinematic sex change for Angelina to take the lead.

Jolie is Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent outed as a Russian sleeper agent by a defector.

She goes on the run to try and prove her innocence while keeping her family safe and attempting to prove who is the real traitor.

Schreiber will play her boss at the CIA, who also happens to be her boss, while Ejiofor will play an unknown character - possibly another agent?

Noyce kicks off shooting the pic next month in New York.

While Variety is reporting the story now, we’ve got to give actual scoop credit to Moviehole, which broke the news first.

Should Schreiber take on this spy role? Or would you rather see him headline a John Clark franchise based on Tom Clancy’s character?

Not sure what mr. russell ( above ) is going on about,Liev schreibers version of "clark" was much more believable than willem defoe ! i think he should be allowed to shine as "clark" in his own right.. ( another bourne in the wings perhaps!!! )

Irishbrian is absolutely right - Liev Schreiber portrayed a fantastic version of John Clark in Tom Clancey's The Sum of All Fears. I'm still hoping they'll hire him to be Clark in Without Remorse.
